A semi-cylindrical or half-round eave-end pendant tile. The pendant *gatou , is a circular disk attached to a half-round tile *marugawara ۊ, which covers the joints where broad concave tiles *hiragawara , meet. In order to prevent rainwater from seeping between and under the roofing tiles and roof sheathing, the marugawara and hiragawara at the eave edge are finished with slightly slanted borders composed of circular pendant tiles, nokimarugawara, alternating with concave rectangular pendant tiles *nokihiragawara , to form a symmetrically decorative finish along the ends of the eaves.
