konoki 小軒

Lit. small or short eave. An eave, konoki, constructed of short rafters called flying rafters *hien daruki 飛櫓垂木 that extend beyond the long base rafters called either *jidaruki 地垂木 or *keshou daruki 化粧垂木. This type of roof construction is called double eaved *futanoki 二軒 roof construction. The term konoki (and *oonoki 大軒, long or big rafters) is commonly used among carpenters when constructing the double-eave roof.
