| Also 孫庇; matabisashi 又庇, 又廂. Lit. grandchild aisle. A narrow additional aisle. Traditional buildings, especially temples and some shrine buildings, have a central core *moya 母屋 and on one to four sides an additional aisle called *hisashi 廂. The use of magobisashi also appear in the shinden style *shinden-zukuri 寝殿造 buildings of the aristocracy. Example: Kakurinji Taishidou 鶴林寺太子堂 (1113), Hyougo prefecture. After the end of the 13c, when new styles and new methods of construction were introduced from China, the magobisashi was rarely employed. | ||||||
