kara yakuimon 唐薬医門
KEY WORD : architecture / gates

A richly decorated gate with bracket complexes *tokyou 斗きょう, placed on top of the male beam. Its structure is the same as the *yakuimon 薬医門 type gate that has two main pillars and two supporting ones. Rainbow beams *kouryou 虹梁 are used in the gable area, and the bargeboards *hafu 破風 are of the ordinary type. This style gate is different from the Chinese type *karamon 唐門. The prefix kara in this case is used because it is quite ornate. It looks like a four-legged *shikyakumon 四脚門.
