hatchuu-zukuri 八注造

Also called hakkaku yane 八角屋根. The eight-sided roof of an octagonal hall *hakkaku endou 八角円堂. Each roof section is triangular with all eight coming to a point at the top. A box-like cover *roban 露盤, is set over the apex of the roof to prevent rain leakage. The roban also serves as a base for an ornament called *houju 宝珠, literally, a precious jewel.
