An arrangement of three staggered shelves in the upper half of the recess *tokowaki 床脇 beside the decorative alcove *tokonoma 床の間. Below these shelves are sliding-door cupboards *jibukuro 地袋 constructed directly on the alcove floor ji-ita 地板. The yuugiridana is a combination of two staggered shelves kiritsubodana 桐壷棚 above one shelf that stretches across the width of the recess *tooshidana 通し棚.
