Flush or even surfaces. Surfaces that are on the same plane. For example, a threshold (*shikii 敷居) that is flush with the straw mat (*tatami 畳) floor of the main room. In the Seisenkaku 成巽閣 tea ceremony house, called Seikouken 清香軒, 1863, Ishikawa prefecture, are alcoves (*tokonoma 床の間) flush with the tatami, also called *fumikomidoko 踏込床.
