The Sakuheimon is the center gate on the north side of Kyoto Gosho ‹ž“sŒäŠ, ‚cairi “à— , at the Heian capital, Heiankyou •½ˆÀ‹ž, in Kyoto, during the end of the Heian period. It was one of the twelve gates around the outer enclosure of Kyoto Gosho grounds. It can be seen in two scrolls: Heiji monogatari emaki •½Ž¡•¨ŒêŠGŠª and Ishiyamadera engi-e ÎŽRŽ›‰‹NŠG. The Taikenmon ‘ÒŒ«–å can also be identified in these scrolls. As illustrated they have three-bays and one-entrance. The Sakuheimon was rebuilt in 1855 as a 4-legged gate *shikyakumon Žl‹r–å. Excluding the *Gishuumon ‹XH–å, one of the twelve gates, the Sakuheimon is the same as the other gates were in style, construction and execution. The Sakuheimon was almost never opened.
