Also nokishikigawara ~. An under-tile. A broad, concave tile laid underneath a broad concave eave-end pendant tile *nokihiragawara . It rests on the tile seat *kawaraza and protects it from weathering. The under-tile also strengthens the projecting part *de o of the concave, pendant tile, helping to prevent damage from the weight of snow and strong winds. It is almost half the length of an ordinary broad, concave roof tile *hiragawara . Also abbreviated shikihira ~.
