Lit. six leaves. A decoration pattern carved into the shape of six petals, and used on a gable pendant *gegyo Œœ‹›, to conceal a nail-head *kugikakushi “B‰B, on door-frames, gates, and on non-penetrating tie beams *nageshi ’·‰Ÿ. Rokuyou patterns are carved into wood mokugu –Ψ‹ο or metal *kanagu ‹ΰ‹ο. A metal rokuyou is called rokuyou kanamono ˜Z—t‹ΰ•¨. The rokuyou has a projection in the center known as *taru-no-kuchi ’M‚ΜŒϋ (cask cap). Around this is a circular rim maruza ‰~ΐ, surrounded by a chrysanthemum-shaped decoration *kikuza ‹eΐ, surrounded in turn by the six petals, often shaped like hollyhock aoi ˆ¨, or water-chestnut petals *hishi •H.
