karado　唐戸

KEY WORD :　architecture / general terms

Either double plank doors *itakarado 板唐戸 in a single opening or panelled doors *sangarado 桟唐戸. The former are associated with timber doors from the 7c-12c and those of the wayou style *wayou 和様 from the 13c onward. The latter are especially characteristic of buildings in the Zen style *zenshuuyou 禅宗様.
