A layered petal motif with one or more petals superimposed one on top of another. It is found on some pendants *gatou 瓦当, of semi-cylindrical, eave-end roof tiles *nokimarugawara 軒丸瓦, made during the Nara period. One example of juuben was unearthed at the site of the ruined Katagiharadera 樫原寺 in Kyoto, and suggests a strong influence from a type of roof tile found in the North Korean kingdom of Koguryo, wh ich ended in 668. Another more elaborate type was produced in Okayama prefecture and distributed from there.
