yotsuya maruta　四谷丸太

Also called yotsuya migakimaruta 四谷磨丸太 or migakimaruta 磨丸太. A cedar log stripped of its bark and then polished with shark skin samegawa 鮫皮. Logs of this type are widely used for alcove posts tokonoma-no-hashira 床の間の柱, purlins, *keta 桁, exposed rafters *keshou daruki 化粧垂木, etc. They are produced in the Kantou 関東 region.
