wayou kouran  和様高欄

A railing in the wayou style *wayou 和様. The horizontal members, the top rail *hokogi 架木, and the middle rail *hirageta 平桁, crisscross past the supporting struts *tsuka 束. The corner posts are usually capped with an onion-shaped decoration called *giboshi 擬宝珠, which distinguishes it from Zen style railings *zenshuuyou kouran 禅宗様高欄.
