Also written 空柱 Lit. hollow pillar. A box-like down-spout, tatedoi 竪樋, used to carry rainwater from roof gutters, *amadoi 雨樋, along the eaves. Examples are found at the Hachiman shrines in the connecting areas, *ai-no-ma 相の間, between front and rear structures.
