A generic term for removable screens, doors or shutters. This includes: sliding screens *shouji 障子; *fusuma 襖 reed framed sliding screens for summer use; sliding doors at an entrance; paneled doors on a gate; rain shutters *amado 雨戸; or shutters that can be lifted out like the lower part of a *shitomido 蔀戸. Some transoms *ranma 欄間 also have sliding parts which can be removed.
