koyabari 小屋梁

Also called rokubari 陸梁. The bottommost transverse tie beam *hari 梁 in a Japanese style roof truss. Rainbow beams *kouryou 虹梁 that have been made with a slight curve are often used in temple buildings instead of ordinary straight transverse tie beams. In vernacular dwellings, huge tree trunks that retain their natural, irregular curvature, are often used for the entire roof truss. It is said that pine is often used for koyabari.
