kizuri 木摺

Wooden slats, placed 2cm apart, which are attached horizontally to main posts *hashira 柱 and intermediary posts *mabashira 間柱 to make the wall structure to which several coats of varying grades of plaster are applied. The first coat is the coarsest and the final coat is fine plaster that is smooth. This type of wall structure is used when even the main posts are covered over with plaster *ookabe-zukuri 大壁造.
