Also kirikizami 切刻み. The measuring and cutting of all structural members into predetermined forms. Before large structural members are set in place, all the connecting members such as tenons *hozo ほぞ, and mortises *hozoana ほぞ穴, end or straight joints *tsugite 継手, angle joints *shiguchi 仕口, and all other joinery is prepared in advance.
