A pictorial subject based on the "Flares" Kagaribi, Chapter 27 of GENJI MONOGATARI ŒΉŽ•¨Œκ (The Tale of Genji). Illustrations chosen for this chapter include: Genji giving lessons on the koto ‹Υ (Japanese zither) to *Tamakazura ‹Κι‘ on a summer evening lit by a flare underneath a spindle tree that arches over a brook in the garden below; or slightly later in the same place with *Yuugiri —[–Ά, *Kashiwagi ”–Ψ, and his brother who have joined them for a concert.
