Also *ro 炉 1　A hearth constructed in an earth-floored area *doma 土間 or earth-floored living room *doza 土座. Particularly associated with simpler vernacular houses *minka 民家 of the Edo period and before. See *jihiro 地火炉. 2　A hearth constructed in a raised timbered floor in a living room, or a service structure. Less common than definition 1 above. See *irori 囲炉裏. 3　The kitchen oven *kamado 竈 in vernacular houses *minka 民家 of the Edo period in some parts of Saga prefecture.
