Also written “•—. Also called hafu-ita ”j•—”Â. A bargeboard. Straight or curved boards laid flat against the ridge ends and purlin ends on the gable sides of a building. They are finishing members in the gables of gable roof *kirizuma yane ŘČ‰ŽŞ or hip-and-gable roof *irimoya yane “ü•ę‰Ž‰ŽŞ. They form a triangular space called the gable pediment tsumagawa Č‘¤. The apex formed by the joining of two bargeboards are called *hafuogami ”j•—”q. The bottoms of each bargeboard is called *hafu kojiri ”j•—–ؐK. The middle part is called koshi ˜ meaning hip, waist or haunch.
