geyabashira 下屋柱
KEY WORD : architecture / folk dwellings

The posts along the outside of the peripheral zone *geya 下屋 created by extending the roof beyond the purlins carried by the main transverse beams. The geya posts are frequently smaller in cross section when used in traditional vernacular houses *minka 民家, with thatched roofs. The term is often used in contrast to *jouyabashira 上屋柱, the posts at the interface between the central main frame *jouya 上屋 and the geya. Also called *kawabashira 側柱.
