uzuwakaba 渦若葉

Lit. curly young leaf.
A decorative pattern resembling leaves with curved tips. It has been used on ornamental roof tiles *onigawara 鬼瓦, and other ornamental reliefs *eyou 絵様, on buildings since the Kamakura period (13c). A variation of *wakaba 若葉.
