Also called tori-no-shita ’¹‚Ìã or bird's tongue. A somewhat triangular piece of wood added to a bracket arm *hijiki •I–Ø, to support a tail rafter *odaruki ”ö‚–Ø. The tail rafter is carved with a graceful, curvilinear design *eyou ŠG—l, to resemble the bracket arms on some nosings *kibana –Ø•@. This arrangement appeared in the 14c.
