Also sometimes read ZUE SOUI. Ch:TUHUI ZONGYI. "Principles of Painting." Chinese painting manual complied by Yang Erzeng —kŽ’˜π (Jp:You Jisou) and influential in Japan. Dated to 1607 in its preface, it is illustrated by Cai Rucuo δο“π² (Jp: Sai Josa) and carved by Huang Yulin ‰©‹Κ—сiJp:Kou Gyokurin). The seven sections consist of figures in landscape, plum blossoms, flowers-and-birds, bamboo, orchids, animals and fish and insects, and landscape. The first six sections include line drawings of various compositions related to the subjects. The unillustrated landscape section contains famous excerpts from theoretical texts on landscape but does not name the texts or authors. As a simplified how-to painting manual, it was popular with early *nanga “μ‰ζ artists, although never as important as *HASSHU GAFU ”ͺŽν‰ζ•ˆ. It was printed again in the 1720's.
