soriwatadono　反渡殿

Also called soriwatarou 反渡廊, taikobashi enrouka 太鼓橋縁廊下. Roofed, open-sided corridors with a convex curved or arched bridge in the center. It was an integral part of the landscape of aristocratic residences, *shinden-zukuri 寝殿造, of the Heian period (794-1185). The corridor connected the central building, shinden 寝殿, with the tai-no-ya 対屋, separate living areas to the east and west. No extant shinden style complex remains today. Examples that retain something of the style are found in the Zen temples Kohouan 孤蓬庵, Daisen'in. 大仙院, at Daitokuji, 大徳寺, Kyoto.
