shakukanamono 杓金物
KEY WORD : architecture / general terms

Dipper-shaped metal fixtures used to cover the extended cylindrical ends at the top and bottom of timber doors. After inserting these ends into the dipper shaped metal fixtures, the "handles" of the dippers are bolted to the top and bottom of the doors. The metal covers protect the extended timber ends and also lessen the friction, making it easier to open and close the doors.
