rinmo 臨模
KEY WORD : art history / paintings

A technique used to copy (*mosha 模写) a painting or work of calligraphy. The original is placed beside the paper on which the copy is to be made and the copy is done by looking at the original and drawing on the copy paper. The term rinsho 臨書 refers to the reproduction of calligraphic texts by this method. Although it is difficult to reproduce the shape of the motif or characters perfectly, this method is superior for reproducing the natural movement of the brush and unity of the color.
