The red-painted front gate, 5 x 2 bays with three entrances that provided access from the south to enter the *choudouin ’©“°‰@, also called hasshouin ”ͺΘ‰@, at the Heian capital Heiankyou •½ˆΐ‹ž. It is two-storied gate with double roofs with acroterion *shibi ιυ”φ on each end of the ridge. Outenmon was on the same axis as the *suzakumon Žι–ε, the main entrance to the Heian capital. Corridors were located to the right (east), seihourou ²–P˜O and to the left (west), shouranrou γΔκa˜O. Attached to the sides of the gate were the central, front gate at Heian Shrine, Heian Jinguu •½ˆΐ_‹{, said to be modeled after this gate.
