A pictorial subject based on "The Typhoon" Nowaki, Chapter 28 of GENJI MONOGATARI ŒΉŽ•¨Œκ (The Tale of Genji). One autumn evening a storm hits Genji's Rokujou ˜Zπ mansion (see *Otome ‰³—), and does considerable damage to the buildings and gardens. Because Genji is away, his son *Yuugiri —[–Ά inquires after Murasaki no Ue Ž‡‚̏γ, his father's principal wife, and catches a glimpse of her for the first time through an open door. Much of the chapter concerns Genji inquiring after each of his ladies at Rokujou, either through or with Yuugiri, to discover what damage they have suffered from the storm. Scenes chosen for illustration include: Yuugiri, acting as his father's deputy, visiting Empress Akikonomu (Akikonomu no Chuuguu HD’†‹{) when her little serving-maids are laying out insect cages in the damp grass of her garden; and Yuugiri secretly witnessing a rather compromising scene between his father and *Tamakazura ‹Κι‘.
