|Lit. full moon shelf. A type of shelving *chigaidana 違い棚, in the shoin style *shoin-zukuri 書院造, comprised of two ornamental shelves in front of a circular window constructed on the rear wall of a decorative alcove *tokonoma 床の間. Recent examples have a curved finishboard *fudegaeshi 筆返し on the inner end of the upper shelf. The upper shelf is often shorter than the lower shelf. Both are connected to a bamboo stalk with nodes running from top to bottom in the center of the circular window. Only the lower shelf extends across the entire square opening.|
