kawarajiri 瓦尻

Lit. the tail of a tile. The tail or upper end of a broad concave roof tile *hiragawara 平瓦. It is wider than the head atama 頭 or lower end. The tail of a semi-cylindrical convex roof tile *marugawara 丸瓦 is also at the upper end unless it has a lip *tamabuchi 玉縁, in which case the edge above the extended lip is called the kawarajiri.
