kigawara 木瓦

Also pronounced kogawara. Wooden strips shaped to resemble traditional tile roofing *hongawarabuki 本瓦葺, i.e., the broad concave tiles called *hiragawara 平瓦 and the semi-circular cover tiles called *marugawara 丸瓦. Example: Chuusonji *Konjikidou 中尊寺金色堂 (1124), Iwate prefecture.
