ichi-no-mon 一の門

The first or main gate of a castle. At Matsuyamajou 松山城 in Ehime prefecture, the gate plan was square *masugata 桝形, with entrances opposite each other on all four sides. The ichi-no-mon was in the style of the *kouraimon 高麗門, an ancient gate which also had a side gate *wakido 脇戸. The Ichi-no-mon of Matsuyamajou was rebuilt between 1824 and 1860..
