hafu kazarikanagu 破風飾金具

Also hafu kanagu 破風金具. Decorative metal fittings *kazarikanagu 飾金具 used on a roof gable *hafu 破風. Among the earliest examples in Japan are those on the gable crest of Houryuuji *Kondou 法隆寺金堂 (rebuilt 693, Nara), which are decorated with openwork honeysuckle arabesques *nindoumon 忍冬文. These hafu kazarikanagu are thought to be ancestors of the gable pendant *gegyo 懸魚.
