chuushikou ganna 中仕工鉋
KEY WORD : architecture / tools

A smoothing plane used to further smooth the surface of timber after the general roughing plane *arashikou ganna 荒仕工鉋, has been used to remove the first irregularities. The mouth, approximately 1.5mm, is smaller than that of the arashikou ganna, and the amount of the blade emerging from the sole is also smaller. The material planed away is therefore finer, and so the irregularities left by the arashikou ganna can be removed, using a planking action against the wood grain.
