arashikou ganna 荒仕工鉋
KEY WORD : architecture / tools

A type of smoothing plane. The arashikou ganna is the first smoothing plane used on a piece of timber, planking irregularities and shaving away the rough surfaces. The width of the mouth at the base of the plane is approximately 2mm, which is relatively wide compared to other smoothing planes, and makes it easier to eject thick shavings.
