Also read tarukigake. A horizontal timber attached to the posts of an exterior wall to support the undersides of the inner ends of rafters on a lean-to roof, *sashikake yane 差掛屋根. Example include: Kasuga style, *kasuga-zukuri 春日造; shrine building, shaden 社殿; and step-canopy, *kouhai 向拝.
