A yellowish-red pigment *ganryou Šη—Ώ used in Oriental painting touyouga “Œ—m‰ζ. Tan means red and is now used as an abbreviation for red lead *entan ‰”’O. formerly it seems to have referred to both entan and tetsutan “S’O (iron red), made from ferric oxide. Tetsutan is now known as *bengara •Ω•Ώ.
