| Lit. trace manifestation. The equivalent for *kami 神, god, in the pairing of Buddhist and Shinto deities called *honji suijaku 本地垂迹. Thus suijaku is the very concept that Japanese Shinto deities are manifestations of the Buddhist ones which latter are therefore the actual deities. | ||||||
