| 1 The
board-floor veranda at the top of the steps of a shrine building. The veranda
at the bottom of the steps is called *hamayuka
浜床. The ooyuka may completely encircle the shrine building or may
be constructed on only three sides. 2 Also *hirobisashi 広廂. In warrior's dwellings *buke-zukuri 武家造, an open area protected by long, extended eaves. It is a step lower than the main hall. People of lower rank were not permitted access to the building beyond this area. |
