ooooban　大々判

Lit. extra large format. A size of *ukiyo-e 浮世絵 print. The term ooooban is used for certain sizes of sheet cut from various types of paper. 1　A large format size of approximately 30-33 X 55-56 cm, made by adding a strip of usually about 1/5 (varies from 1/3 to 1/6) of another sheet of paper to a full-sized piece of *minogami 美濃紙. As long as *hosoban 細判, this was the standard format size used for *tan-e 丹絵 prints frequently used by Torii Kiyonobu 鳥居清信 (1664-1729) and Kiyomasu 清倍 (act. early 18c) as well as the paintings by the artists of the Kaigetsudou school *Kaigetsudouha 懐月堂派. 2　Also called tokuooban 特大判 and takenaga bousho zenban 丈長奉書全判. A full sheet of *takenaga bousho 丈長奉書, approximately 53 X 72 cm. The largest format size of ukiyo-e. Used for *uki-e 浮絵 prints by Okumura Masanobu 奥村政信 (1686-1764). 3 Special types of *ooban 大判 prints.
