nijuu enkou 二重円光

Also nijuu enkouhai 二重円光背, nijuu ensou 二重円相. Lit. double round halo. A type of halo *kouhai 光背, found on seated Buddhist figures. Consists of two composite parts: a round head halo *zukou 頭光, attached to a round body halo *shinkou 身光. These round sections are called *enkou 円光. Nijuu enkou were used throughout all periods of Buddhist art from the 7c. A good example is the Amida Nyoraizou 阿弥陀如来像 (946) in Iwafunedera 岩船寺, Kyoto.
