written 店棚. 1 A small-scale shop in the mediaeval period. Known from the late Heian period as mise 見世 or *tana 棚, the term misedana seems to have come into widespread use in the late Kamakura period. In the Muromachi period it appears to have been abbreviated to *mise 店. 2 A counter or shelf upon which goods may be displayed. | ||||||
