| Lit. 
      enclosure. An old name for a tea ceremony room *chashitsu 
      茶室. Originally there was no small room *koma 
      小間, in which to perform the tea ceremony. Therefore, by enclosing part of 
      a large room with moveable screens *byoubu 
      屏風 an intimate space was created. Thus, referring to a tea ceremony room 
      as kakoi in all probability derived from this custom. | ||||||
