Lit. hip tie beam. Penetrating tie beams placed horizontally slightly below the center of pillars on exterior walls of temple buildings gates, pagodas etc. Examples: Kakurinji Taishidou 鶴林寺太子堂 (1112), Hyougo prefecture; Kenninji Chokushimon 建仁寺勅使門 (ca. 14c), Kyoto.
