koshibyoubu 腰屏風

Type of screen similar to *makurabyoubu 枕屏風 in format. They were slightly taller, about 60cm high, or about as high as a person's hips koshi 腰. In the 15-16c, a time of rampant civil wars, this low type of byoubu was placed behind a host when guests were received, reassuring them that no one was hiding behind the screen.
