Treatise on Native Painting. A short 18c essay on painting by Confucian scholar and education reformer Hirazawa Kyokuzan 平沢旭山 (1733-91). Written in 1788, KOKUGARON defends *Kanouha 狩野派 painting as well as its Chinese and Muromachi period Japanese antecedents in literati styles incorporated in *nanga 南画. Kyokuzan gives a rather confused argument about the development of styles in China and Japan in defense of Kanou academism. It is published in Sakazaki Tan 坂崎坦, ed. NIHONGARON TAIKAN 日本画論大観.
