kizuchi 木槌

A mallet that is usually made of oak or holly. It is used in cases where a metal hammer such as the *gennou 玄能 would be inappropriate; for example, to insert or extract the blade of a plane, to hammer the blade or the plane stock directly, or to strike a chisel. The head is usually round with a diameter of approximately 60mm. The handle is approximately 300mm long.
